Based off the popular children's film, Over the Hedge, this STEAM challenge encourages children to think creatively when designing a catapult to launch food (pompom) over the hedge.
STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. It can be utilised in many ways, with the focus being to challenge children to develop creative solutions using skills and techniques found in these five areas.
My STEAM challenges are based off real life and children's movie examples that students can relate to. They have been designed to engage students aged 7 - 11 in fun, purposeful and hands on problem solving tasks. All challenges have been trialled with my students with any improvements made. Expect each challenge to take around 1 - 2 hours depending on time allowed for planning/designing, crafting, and refining students' creative solutions.
